There seems to be a subtle emanation from us which envelops people and things and reveals our inward states to them, whether we say anything about it or not. A person who is filled with condemnation and harsh criticism jars us inwardly when we feel the impact of his personality on ours. He gives us a vague sense of unrest and produces a corresponding antagonism in our own minds. And then, as a sort of self defense mechanism we throw it right back at him.”
